'KaleidoSound: An Introduction' – f5point6 (SBA #005)
See Blue Audio turns its sights onto a new artist for our next release as we welcome f5point6 to the label. 'KaleidoSound: An Introduction', as the title suggests, is the inaugural release from f5point6, and both the artist's name and the release title convey a strong sense of cinematography. This is intentional as the visual image is central to all the creativity output of R.Cleveland Aaron, also known as f5point6.
Cleveland's successful career as a professional photographer has taken him into many areas, including architecture, interiors, fashion, music and advertising, as well as earning him the role as a mentor with Olympus Digital UK. Born and still based in east London, his natural love for music and club culture was enhanced by regular commissions from several of the UK's electronic music magazines. His global travels exposed him to many different styles, which formed the basis of his own sonic explorations even when his photographic work headed in different directions. In particular, Cleveland immersed himself in the world of ambient music, where his visual philosophy based on light, shape and space found much in common.
The KaleidoSound project is the result of these studio explorations, meticulously crafted and often using original field recordings as source material, as well as utilising Cleveland's passion for retro synths and analogue sounds. The six tracks of 'KaleidoSound: An Introduction' develop into a collection of musical short stories, mostly beatless, and based on the natural world around us with his keen visual sensibility evident throughout.
The titles of the tracks reflect key elements on this planet and beyond. Commencing with 'Nova', delicate notes and soft swathes of sound represent the evolving light of a new star, while '423 Hz', the frequency of pure white light, resonates with slow motion energy. Coming up for air, 'Altocumulus' embraces the sky with its spacey tones and sounds captured from the living world.
'Flow' harnesses the power of nature's winds and currents; they surround our bodies with eerie sounds, and we become lost in their movement. 'Apotica', the Italian word meaning the aphotic zone of the ocean where little or no light penetrates, is a return to darker, submerged audio with strange effects flitting in and out. By way of
transformation and the bringing of hope, 'Sun Fire' concludes the debut KaleidoSound project as we return to solid ground soothed by rich textures and the crackle of fire.
Welcome to f5point6, KaleidoSound and the first of many auditory adventures from R.Cleveland Aaron.
