fran3000 The first thing that stands out about f5point6's music is his singular compositional style. While it has all the elements of textbook ambient and electronic music, he manages to densely blend his compositions with a unique approach to structure. You hear shades of ambient house and jazz, interspersed with found voices and deeply layered bass drones underneath the melodies. The album will bathe you at once in both the familiar and exotic.

'KaleidoSound: Time, Space & Frequencies Vol. 1' – f5point6 (SBA #008)

Following on swiftly from the debut release by f5point6, See Blue Audio is pleased to announce the successor to ‘KaleidoSound: An Introduction’ with the first instalment of ‘KaleidoSound: Time, Space & Frequencies’, and the eighth release on the label.

‘KaleidoSound: An Introduction’ was exactly that: the presentation of an artist who has spent a long time quietly crafting his creative vision and production skills. R.Cleveland Aaron, the man behind f5point6, has used his successful career as a professional photographer as the springboard for his auditory adventures, and a strong sense of cinematography can be heard throughout his music.

In the same way that Cleveland uses photography to tell a story, his compositions follow a similar pattern, and this has been taken to a deeper level on ‘KaleidoSound: Time, Space & Frequencies Vol. 1’. To put it simply, this is a conceptual project based around the creation of Planet Earth, which is also reflected in titles like ‘io vedo la balena’ – meaning “I see the whale” in Italian – ‘The Second Day’ and ‘Cambrian Radiation’. As with the first f5point6 release, natural sounds play a vital role in the music. Over its six main tracks, gentle pulses, the ebb and flow of water, electronic haze, atmospheric disturbance, and shifting sands of sound provide a backdrop for the KaleidoSound tapestry of ambient and beatless soundscapes, field recordings, subtle melodies, traces of jazz, and a passion for retro synths and analogue sounds.

Each track tells its own short story in an audio chronicle of how the Earth was formed, but they come together as a cinematic whole travelling through time, space and sonic frequencies. This effect is further enhanced by the five ‘[Intermissions]’ between tracks, which serve as brief vignettes setting the scene for the next story. The extended closing track, ‘Theory of Change Pt 1’, and accompanying ‘[Outro]’, meanwhile, leave the narrative open for the second instalment of ‘KaleidoSound: Time, Space & Frequencies’. As the child’s spoken word sample at the end of ‘[Outro]’ says, “The universe is a mystery. The need to understand is driven by our imagination.”

Once again, f5point6 has used the KaleidoSound project to fuse sound, vision and the natural world into an exploration of imagination, and this is only the beginning.
